SEA CREATURE HUB
SEA TURTLE
Graceful and ancient, sea turtles have roamed the oceans for over 100 million years. Sadly, pollution and plastic waste threaten their survival — every piece of litter picked up helps protect their journey.
Habitat: Tropical and subtropical oceans around the world.
How Waste Affects Them:
Plastic bags floating in the ocean often resemble jellyfish, one of a sea turtle’s favorite meals. Ingesting them can block their digestive systems, often leading to starvation. Ghost fishing nets are another major threat, entangling turtles and preventing them from reaching the surface for air.
Coastal development and artificial lighting can confuse hatchlings, leading them away from the ocean.
Conservation groups worldwide are working to protect nesting beaches and reduce plastic waste in turtle habitats.
By supporting cleanup efforts and reducing plastic use, we can give these gentle navigators a safer path forward.
